General Information
The Latin Club is one of the most active and fun organizations at Riverbend High School. Membership is open to all RHS Latin students.

All the Latin Club is divided into three parts (with apologies to Julius Caesar): the Club proper, the newly-launched National Latin Honor Society, and our competitive certamen teams.

The organization is governed by a functional and well-guarded constitution administered by the club's parliamentarian and president.

More information and a group mailing list will be found soon on SCORE.

Membership
All current and former Latin students at Riverbend High School are eligible for membership in the RHS Latin Club. Please complete the membership form and return it with dues of $10.00 (Please make checks payable to Riverbend High School). Be a part of one of the most active and fun organizations at RHS!

Affiliation
The RHS Latin Club is affiliated with the National Junior Classical League and the Virginia Junior Classical League.

Cinema Romana Open for Business
The Latin Club opened up the Cinema Romana with a showing of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum on Wednesday, September 16. In keeping with tradition established by our founding father Robert Barrow, we crunched on nachos as we enjoyed the film. The Club provided the tortilla chips and drinks, participants signed up to bring topping to share.

Taylor Locks Elected
NJCL First VP!

Amanda Haislip Completes Term as NJCL Historian,
Sarah Keith as VJCL Editor

Congratulations to Taylor Locks, who was elected to the position of First Vice President of the National Junior Classical League at its annual convention held recently at the University of California-Davis. Taylor, a rising senior in AP Latin, will serve for the 2009-2010 school year and help direct the national organization which oversees and supports Latin clubs all across the country. One of her main duties will be to help plan, organize, and run the 2010 NJCL Convention to be held in North Dakota next summer.

Taylor continues Riverbend's amazing run of service on the state and national executive boards. Amanda Haislip just completed her term as NJCL Historian, where she was responsible for creating a scrapbook of activities from chapters all across the country and working to make this most recent convention such a resounding success. Nikki Carroll (Parliamentarian), Toni Carroll (Parliamentarian), Amanda Haislip (Historian), and Sarah Keith (Editor) have all served the Virginia Junior Classical League in the past five years.

Latin Club Amendments Passed
The RHS Latin Club will add another officer to the Executive Board for the 2009-2010 school year. At a general meeting held on Thursday, March 11, an amendment was passed unanimously which divides the present office or Editor/Historian into the separate offices of Editor and Historian. This change was made in order to facilitate the production of a newsletter every nine weeks and a scrapbook at the end of every school year. Another amendment also passed unanimously to make the offices of Editor and Historian appointed by the Executive Board and not elected by the membership. Members interested in applying for these offices must submit an application (under development).
