FOREIGN TRAVEL

Students who are enrolled in the Latin program at Riverbend High School (and their parents) have the opportunity of participating in trips to Italy and Greece. Mr. Keith has led tours to Italy for students from Riverbend and other area high schools in 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2001, and 2005; he led a tour to Greece in 2004. In 2007 he led a tour to both Italy and Greece.

There is no trip planned for 2007-2008.

***These trips are organized through professional agencies which specialize in accommodating school groups. While the officials of Spotsylvania County School Board and Riverbend High School recognize that teachers organize these trips involving students, they do not act as sponsors and are in no way liable or responsible in the event of accident or loss. These trips are not a Latin Club activity.

Cities, sites and activities in past trips to Italy have included:

  • Rome, including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, museums and other Roman remains  
  • Vatican City, including St. Peter's Square and Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museums
  • Ostia Antica  
  • Pompeii and the Archaeological Museum of Naples  
  • Sorrento and the beautiful Isle of Capri  
  • Paestum  
  • Assisi, including the Basilica of St. Francis
  • San Marino
  • Florence, including Michelangelo's David at the Academy, the Uffizi Gallery, the Duomo, and some of the best shopping in the world
  • Pisa
  • San Gimignano
  • Siena
  • Orvieto
  • Volterra  
  • Venice, including a romantic gondola ride through the canals
  • Ferry from Brindisi to Patras, Greece

  • Athens, including the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Acropolis Museum, the National Archaeological Museum, and many other sites of classical and cultural significance
  • Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon
  • Delphi, including the Temple to Apollo and the Delphi Museum
  • Corinth and the Corinth Canal
  • Mycenae, including the Lion Gate, Treasury of Atreus, and the Circle Graves
  • Epidaurus and the famous theater
  • Olympia, including a footrace in the original Olympic stadium, and the Olympia Museum
  • the Saronic Gulf, including the islands of Hydra, Poros, and Aegina
  • Ferry from Brindisi, Italy to Patras
